Seafood is the speciality on the island of Tasmania and Hobart is no exception, with numerous seafood restaurants located in and around Hobart city centre. There are also countless other excellent restaurants, cafés and eateries tucked away in Hobart's backstreets and throughout the suburbs of the Hobart. Most restaurants in Hobart happily accept reservations for both lunch and dinner, so it is often advisable to call in advance to ensure a dining place at the restaurant.

Hobart's restaurants and cafés generally open throughout the week, serving food from 07:00 to 22:00 or later. Sunday and Monday nights are the most common days for some Hobart restaurants to close, although many are now open seven days a week. Most of the restaurants in Hobart open for lunch and dinner, while Hobart's enormous selection of cafés and patisseries provide a popular breakfast option in Hobart, and some of these cafés are even open 24-hours a day.
